More than 500 students & mentors of 17 states will try to give solutions for 18 problems of ISRO




Ahmedabad: The grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2018 (Software Edition) will be held on 30th and 31st March, 2018 at 28 nodal centres across the country including Ahmedabad. Smart India Hackathon is the World’s largest Nation-Building Digital Initiative of the HRD Ministry. Gujarat Technological University (GTU) in association with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are the hosts for Ahmedabad Nodal Center event to be organised at Shivanand Ahsram, Opp. ISRO.


Prof.(Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU and Senior officers  from ISRO - Shri Haresh Bhatt & Shri Rajesh Khandelwal announced the detail of Smart India Hackathon 2018 at a Media Meet. This year, 27 Central Ministries/Departments and 17 State Governments have sent more than 900 problem statements. After scrutinizing 408 problems (340 for Software and 68 for Hardware) were finally selected for the Hackathon. For SIH - 2018, 17400 teams registered with participation of around one lakh students of Engineering, Management and MCA. These entries were scrutinized and now 1296 entries are selected for the Grand Finale.

SIH-2018 comprises of two competitions – Software Hackathon and Hardware Hackathon. The final round of Software Hackathon competition will be conducted for continuous 36 hours at 28 nodal centers across the country on 30th and 31st March 2018 while Hardware Hackathon competition will be conducted in the month of June 2018. 



Around 8000 students will attempt to give solutions for the listed 340 software problems.

They said that 18 problem statements were presented by department of space to which they received 301 submissions. 64 teams are selected across 17 states and 1 union territory, total 378 students (104 girls and 274 boys) and 126 mentors will be working for continuous 36 hrs.  Hackathon will commence at 7:40 am and after inauguration coding will start from 8:25 am, this will run continuously for next 36 hrs. Jury would be allotted by ISRO. The esteemed scientists of ISRO will conduct 2 training rounds, 1 power mentoring round and 3 evaluation rounds. Total 32 teams from Gujarat are participating in different states and are solving problem statements of different ministries, Dr. S.D. Panchal, in charge registrar of GTU and Shri Hiranmay Mahanta, Director of GIC said. 


Prizes to be won: Prizes for the top winners under different categories are:

• 1st prize – Rs.1,00,000/-

• 1st runner up – Rs.75,000/-

• 2nd runner up – Rs.50,000/-
