3 teams from GTU selected among Top 35 teams in Mitsubishi Electric Cup competition

Ahmedabad: This time Mitsubishi electric cup national level competition for factory automation is something special for Gujarat because this year 7 teams from the state are selected among top 35 teams from all over India. In the selected shop 7 teams; three teams are from Gujarat Technological University (GTU) & GTU affiliated colleges. This was stated by Prof.(Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU.

GTU community Innovation and co-creation center (CiC3) a part of GTU innovation Council (GIC) is imparting training to the students of engineering colleges to participate such competitions under the guidance of Faculty Guide / Mentro Prof. Raj Hakani. GIC gave special training to the students and created tinkerer’s team for the competition. The tinkerer’s team will make automatic ball pen making and packaging machine. This year’s theme of the competition is “Digital Industry through Smart Imagination”. A team of GTU affiliated college from Mehsana SPB Patel Engineering College (Saffrony Institute of Technology) has been also selected in top 35. The team will create automated scheduling using machine learning resulting in low power consumption and optimized human resources. Another GTU affiliated college team selected in top 35 is from Kalol Institute of Technology and Research Centre. The team will create automatic induction hardening machine. Rest of Gujarat teams selected in top 35 are from universities from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Nadiad.

Last year GTU team reached up to 4th national rank. In the last year's competition the team made or transformer winding machine for small scale factories. The team developed prototype which can Wind 3 bobbins at one same time and it can be extended upto 9 bobbins. Aim of Competition is to improve college students' engineering application capability, arouse their interests in learning technology, build up innovation capacity and cooperation spirit, as well as improve their self-management ability and communication skills, Hiranmay Mahanta, Director of GIC said.

As per schedule, this year the selected teams will get mitsubishi electric FA hardware set. The set will be dispatched on 30th September 2018. During October 2018 to February 2019, each selected team will prepare model by process of fabrication, wiring, programming, commissioning, testing etc. Selected teams will have to submit their report online through portal by 15th December 2018. Final competition will be held at Manav Rachna International University of Research and Studies, Faridabad during 14th to 16th February, 2019.

GTU has set up five hi tech laboratories having state-of-the art equipment at Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Automation Technologies in association with German Company Bosch-Rexroth in Vishwakarma Government Engineering College at GTU Chandkheda Campus. This Center acts as a place to educate Automation Technologies to students with focus on Training, Knowledge transfer, Research Projects, Application Oriented Research and Innovation. Aim to set up these labs is to improve employability of students & equip them with latest skill sets and to provide opportunities for developing entrepreneurs based on advance technology. Later, GTU will also provide training to working professionals from Maintenance, Projects, Quality, R & D, Production, Design, Service, Application engineering, ITI Electrician/ Electronics / Fitter etc. Professionals with industry experience & Companies looking to meet Training Needs of their technical staff.
