GTU Pharmacy students to be made industry-ready
Ahmedabad: Every year Research Week at Gujarat Technological University (GTU) have significance for Post Graduate students and it is being organised in very big way. This year 459 students participated in Pharmacy Research Week. 240 Faculty members and experts gave them guidance about how to improve their research.
Pharm Research week was organised this year during last month. On this occasion, expert lectures organised in form of 12 workshops. Experts from renowned University & Institute like CDRI, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow, Laurentian Uni, Canada, NIPER, BHU, Pune University, Registrar, Rajasthan Pharmacy Council, Manipal University, NMIMS, MUMBAI, Deptt of Pharmacy, SGSITS, Indore and Experts from Industry like Accuprec, Sun Pharmaceutical Industires Limited, Accutest, Jamp pharma, Ahmedabad, Director, SynZyl etc participated in the event.
GTU is taking exam of M.Pharm. in three stages. In first stage we have a process during ITD, then we are taking mid-session exam and after that we are taking final dissertation. Mid-session exam is called as Research Week. We at, GTU have speciality of teaching patent alongwith the study so that student can file & obtain it, Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU said.
Dr. Abdelwahab Omri, Professor Laurentian University Canada, who is coming to GTU specially for Research week, said we are reviewing the performance of students. If any student has not done proper research work, then instead of criticizing, we are helping the student to improve the performance. We teach them how to make the research worth international quality and what value addition should be made.
Dr. C.N. Patel, Dean of Pharmacy faculty and member of Pharmacy Council of India said that we are revising syllabus every 3-4 years. GTU Pharmacy students to be made industry-ready. Dr. C.J. Shishoo, Ex- Director of B.V. Patel Pharmaceutical Education and Research Development (PERD) Centre and Ex-Principal of L.M. College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad said that India is third biggest drug manufacturer in the world, especially in generic drugs. Yet we need more pharmacists in the research & in clinical trial so that the drugs can be available at affordable rates.
Feedbacks: Dr. Amita Joshi (Scientist-B at B. V. Patel PERD Centre): Students have improved however they need to have more scientific explanation for their research findings. GTU arrangements have been extremely good. Dr. V. Gopal (Professor-cum-Principal & HOD Pharmacognosy at Mother theresa, Puducherry): Excellent, well planned and neatly executed. GTU may suggest the thrust areas for research and the research can be a continuing research for coming out with social beneficial end products. Dr. Rajeshkumar Maheshwari (PROFESSOR & EX-HEAD, Deptt. of Pharmacy, S.G.S.I.T.S): This was my fourth experience at GTU. All things are well defined and well-designed always. Dr. S.G. Vasantharaju (Associate Professor at Manipal College of Pharmaceutical science): Over all this is very good move to improve the quality of research in the University.
