IPR is an act for intellectual properties. Under this act – copyrights, patents, trademarks and trade secrets are included. India is very back in this patent filling system. In India, people are thinking innovatively, and they make prototypes too; but they are not aware enough about filling patents. China is first in this patent filling thing. They file 7 lakh patents and US in on second with number of 6.5 lakh patent. When India is on 53,000 patents only. GTU is celebrating 50 complete patent applications filing through support provided to innovators from various colleges and the universities of Gujarat, under SSIP Scheme of Education Department, Govt of Gujarat.
GTU has supported innovators from all corners of Gujarat, via carrying out mass level SSIP IP Awareness & Screening Programmes. Within a period of last 10 months, GTU has carried our nearly 24 SSIP IP Awareness Programmes and equal numbers of project screening sessions. Through these GTU has screened nearly 230 projects, out of which 101 projects were approved to provide financial support for patent filing under SSIP Scheme, and out of them so far 50 Complete Patent Applications have been filled. Many more are on the way of drafting and filing. In days to come, GTU intends to be one of the major patent filing supporters in the country, and we actively work to further support these innovators for commercializing their patented inventions.
