GTU launches I-Become App to inculcate moral values in students

GTU takes unique initiative in association with Shri Ramkrishna Ashram, Rajkot

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has launched I-become app to inculcate moral values and ethics in the students. The app will enable the students to design his/her career on the move through a range of career services. Besides this the app will also be useful to students in their study as well as examination preparations. Design of this app is made up from taking inspiration from the thought of Swami Vivekananda that youth can transform the world by starting from self. GTU has taken this initiative in association with Shri Ramkrishna Ashram, Rajkot.

GTU is the first university to start the Contributory Personality Development Programme (CPDP). Various commissions appointed by Union HRD Ministry have recommended to start value-based education, but no concrete progress can be visible in that direction. In these circumstances, this GTU app will be useful to students. For all students behaviour and ethics are having same importance as their education, Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU said while launching the app. He gave example of how former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam became missile scientist in his childhood taking inspiration from teaching by Dr. Iyengar.

Swami Sarvasthanandaji, Chairman of Shri Ramkrishna Ashram, Rajkot, who has played key role in creating the app. He is also pioneer in CPDP as well as taking active interest in Sankul Day celebrations of GTU Innovation Council since last so many years. He said on the occasion that Aadhar Card and various other initiatives under Digital India taken by Government of India under the leadership of hon. Shri Narendrabhai Modi will be useful to common man. Youth are making maximum use of smart phones and digital technologies. So we thought that instead of books, if we can use app for inculcating moral values, it will become more popular. Recently hon. Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat also took decision to provide tablets to students. If we can add the app in that tablet, we can give lessons of ethics to students. In future, we are also planning to bring out the app in Gujarati and other vernacular languages.

The Contributor Personality programme is being conducted since last 4 years. GTU along with i-Become has been working on the challenge of making the program more valuable to students, easy to administer and create more engagement with students. In keeping with this objective, i-Become is launching a new digital app for students along with support services for the colleges and teachers. The goal is significantly enhancing the career connect of the CPD program into the lives of the students. The aim of the digital app is to strengthen the career planning and employability of the students besides making the CPD program more valuable and relevant to students. The I-Become app is for students who see themselves as Career Designers (and not victims of circumstances), Mr. Shrinivas Venkatram, CEO of Illumine Knowledge Resources, who provided technical support for the app said.
