GTU receives IDA Education Award for Collaborative leadership in higher education

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) was declared winner in the category of collaborative leadership in higher education in India Didactics Association (IDA) Education Awards. On behalf of GTU, Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of the university accepted the award from Award received from Ms. Leela loochoomun, minister of education, govt.  Of Mauritius and Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister & Education Minister of Delhi at JW Marriott Hotel, new Delhi.

The awards were given in annual ministerial and leadership conference Asian Summit on Education and Skills (ASES). Total 650 nominations were received for 20 categories of the Awards. The nominations were received from 17 states all over India. Total 100 eminent educators from across India were part of the jury process. After the process, Grand jury meet organised to decide the winners.

Reacting on receiving the Award, Dr. Sheth said that, “IDA Education Awards are given to reward pioneering initiatives taken by educational institutions/organizations with the focus on factors enhancing the student learning outcomes. GTU received the award for Re-Discovering, Re-Defining & Re-Imagining the teaching-learning process and preparing students for life. At GTU, we are taking up lots of community-centric programmes with the aim of giving something back to the society. Through the activities of NSS, 500 Colleges-500 villages, Vishwakarma Yojna and various other programmes, Students and faculty members as well as staff from GTU & affiliated 480 colleges are making impact in society. We are happy to receive the national recognition of our work.”

India Didactics Association (IDA), the exclusive membership association in India for the education & training fraternity has organised the ongoing 10thedition of DIDAC India in New Delhi. DIDAC India is partnered by The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), NITI Aayog, AICTE, NCERT and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and hosted by Department of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.

ASES the global annual meeting of ministers bringing insights of leading education pioneers policymakers and education experts from Asia has representatives from 15 countries this time. The theme of ASES this year was “Learning for Tomorrow s World”. During the session on ‘Exponential change’, the speakers focused on the challenges for education as technological developments build on each other as the needs of society and economies alter, as demand for new combinations of knowledge, skills.

Speaking on the occasion Manish Sisodia said, “We have to find innovative ways to make education fun and less burdensome for students. In Delhi, we have already cut down the curriculum by 25% to reduce the burden on the students and introduced happy curriculum. We have also requested the Central Govt. to look at the possibility of reducing it up to 50%.”

Aditya Gupta CEO India Didactics Association (IDA) said, “India has the largest percentage of young people in the world. This essential human resource must be provided with working competencies and skills keeping in mind latest innovation and technological developments in education sector to make them future ready with industrial revolution 4.0. The need of the hour is an exponential change – be it teacher training, assessments or technology adoption to ensure that teaching and learning outcomes are at par with the best global practices. ASES is an effort to bring these deliberations on the table for policy makers to interact with senior educators while DIDAC provides real time implementation for practical solutions.”
