GTU receives National Level ‘Outstanding University in West India 2019’ Award

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has received Outstanding University in West India, 2019 Award for exemplary contribution in Education & Research. The Award was received by Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU at a ceremony part of India’s biggest education initiative i.e. Indian Education Festival in New Delhi. The National Level Award was given by Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Aggarwal, Chairman, National Board of Accreditation and Prof. (Dr.) Anil. D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE to GTU for Outstanding University in West India.

Centre for Education Growth and Research (CEGR), has instituted the Award to recognize and value consistent and high level of teaching in Education and Research. The award aims to recognise and honour distinguished individuals and Institutions which have provided guidance and inspired students to take up careers in Education and Research.

Dr. Sheth said that GTU has received the Award for following initiatives for the First time in Western India:

(1) Automation & Emerging Technology Labs: GTU has set up 5 hi tech laboratories having state-of-the art equipment at Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Automation Technologies in association with Bosch-Rexroth India Limited (BRIN) in Vishwakarma Government Engineering College at GTU Chandkheda Campus. Bosch Rexroth India Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of BOSCH Rexroth Germany. These centres aims to improve employability with latest skill sets and provide opportunities for Research as well as developing entrepreneurs base skills on advance & emerging technologies. GTU- Centre of Excellence in Automation runs short term training in: 1. Hydraulics, 2.Pneumatics 3. Sensorics, 4. Programmable logic controller (PLC) and Robotics & Mechatronics.

(2) Use of Technologies in Education: To provide University level services like students Enrolment Process, Any certificates, Grade history, Filling exam forms rechecking/ reassessment process, Online Admission Process, Results are to given in-time online, Rechecking/Reassessment provisions online, Students help centre can be established, Provide platform to encourage their ideas/Start-Up, Subscribe e-resources to provide open access & Use of Virtual Labs concepts in association with IIT Bombay. Institute Admin Panel portal is being used to Update Institute data / Faculty Information & to see the Results analysis, Placement portal, Project Monitoring and Maintenance System (PMMS), Term Management and Monitoring System (TMMS), 100 points activity monitoring system as well as Paperless and Cashless environment in most of the tasks.

(3) Research Initiatives: GTU organizes Research Week, which is called Kumbh Mela of Research, as an evaluation process of the Ph.D students and Masters Students for the mid-semester review of their final year thesis work. Experts from other universities of India (and abroad) evaluate the work of these students and mentor the students so that they can improve the quality of their work. The visiting experts conduct workshops on the topic of their expertise and new developments in their field to enhance the knowledge of students. Qualitative research is main focused area for this because good researcher will lead and contribute in the country’s development.

(4) E-Assessment system – Summer Exam: Scan copy of the answer sheets are delivered to examiner’s portal on 3rd day of the exam and 15 days are given to each examiners to complete assessment. Practical exams marks need to be lock online by external examiners.

(5) Student Start up Support System (S4) ecosystem: GTU is the Pioneer in setting up start-up ecosystem in Gujarat. GTU innovation Council (GIC) is looking after the ecosystem. To expand the base of GIC, GTU has started three regional centres in Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara. GTU received Rs. 10 Crore grant under Atal Innovation Mission through Niti Ayog. Government of Gujarat in association with GTU created Student Start up and Innovation Policy for the first time in India, which was implemented at national level by AICTE. GIC provides facilities like Co-Working Space, Mentoring, participation in Vibrant Summits, Central level Startup Competition and Guidance in marketing, Business development and many more, for the Sustenance of Innovators. Today, 67+ Startups have been incubated, out of which 41 Startups have been funded worth Rs 1.3 Crore based on Startup Assistance Scheme of Govt. Of Gujarat and SSIP. GIC is working in 5 domains namely: Pre-Incubation (S4), Design Thinking, IPR, CiC3 (Community Innovation & Co-Creation Centre) and Incubation to support Innovators.

(6) International Experience Program (IEP): GTU arranges the International Experience Program (IEP) since 2011 to provide international academic and socio-cultural exposure to its students, where the students visit the international university partners in the semester gap for 4-6 weeks in the month of June-July and study two subjects of their respective courses. More than 350 students from various branches of Management, Engineering and Pharmacy participate in International Experience program at US, Canada and European countries every year. Since its inception more than 1450 students have derived the benefits of international pedagogical system.

(7) E-courses on Smart Cities: GTU-Graduate School of Smart Cities Development (GSSCD) is running ten smart city certificate E-courses. These e-courses are online distance learning courses. The participants can study being at their choice of place i.e. home, office etc. The participants need to spare 8-10 hours per week for each e-course. The course duration is 6 Months. Each course consists of 8/9 modules and each module contains lectures in form of PDFs. After Successful completion of exam, E-Course participants will get the e-course certificate from GTU.
