VGEC organises training for students to work for Swachchh Bharat Mission
Ahmedabad: Students of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) have created 9000 toilets in 107 villages within One week of National Service Scheme (NSS) Camp. Around 6000 students from 57 colleges and institutes participated in the work for social cause. Now the training session for next round of camp has been begun in GTU colleges. One such training programme was held at Vishwakarma Government Engineering college, Chandkheda, Ahmedabad.
First NSS camp of this educational year was organised in around 107 villages. The camp was of two types: Day camp and Stay camp. In the day camp, students were working in the villages during daytime, while in stay camp they have to stay in villages day and night for around a week. Types of camp were decided on the basis of location near to colleges. Now the next camp is being organised from 5th September till 2nd October. To participate in the next camp training session was held. Definition of Engineer is problem solver. If Engineering students are visiting the village for a week and solve the problem, they can create something helpful to society. This is the purpose of NSS camp and GTU is providing credit points for such camps, Dr. Rajul Gajjar, I/c Vice Chancellor of GTU said.
National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are to understand the community in which they work, to understand themselves in relation to their community, to identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving, to develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. Under Swachchh Bharat mission, Government has decided to make Gujarat Open Defecation Free (ODF). The requirement of toilets is 69 lakh, out of which 80% work has been completed, means 16 lakh toilets have been constructed, capt. C.S.Sanghvi, programme co-ordinator of NSS in GTU said.
