GTU to set up Atal Incubation Centre for Deep Tech, Biotechnology & Bio-Medical

GTU signs MoUs with IIT-Bombay, L.M. College of Pharmacy & Accuprec Research Labs

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will set up Atal Incubation Centre for the sector of Intersection of Deep Tech and Health, Industrial Biotechnology and Bio-Medical. To create the new set up for innovation & start up, GTU has done collaboration with Biomedical Engineering and Technology (Incubation) Center (BETiC) of IIT Bombay.

“GTU is setting up Atal Incubation Centre supported by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog through their Not for profit Company GTU Innovation & Startup Centre for the sector of Intersection of Deep Tech and Health, Industrial Biotechnology and Bio-Medical. GTU was invited by IIT Bombay to participate in one of the premier event Medical Device Innovation Camp (MEDIC 2018) at Bombay. During this event, Collaboration between GTU and IIT Bombay was exchanged to support the Young Innovators to leverage the strength of each other. This collaboration is aimed to support Atal Incubation Centre of GTU which was recently got selected by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog,” Prof.(Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU said.

Recently Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi mentioned Deep Tech while delivered an address at the event to mark the launch of Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He said the components of “Industry 4.0” actually have the ability to transform the present and future of human life. He said launch of this Centre, the fourth in the world after San Francisco, Tokyo and Beijing, opens the door to immense possibilities in the future. He said emerging fields i.e. Deep Tech including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Blockchain, and Big Data, can take India to new heights of development, and improve the quality of life of its citizens. He said that for India, this is not just an industrial transformation, but a social transformation. He said Industry 4.0 has the strength to drive irreversible positive change in India. He added that it will help bring the required speed and scale to work being done in India.

GTU Innovation Council (GIC) Team Member Tushar Panchal attended the Camp and worked on the Clubfoot Deformity Measurement problem of Medical Industry. Through team formation to Ideation to Proof of Concept, Solution were proposed in front of 60 plus Jury members (Consisting of Doctors, Industrialist, Academicians and Entrepreneurs).  The same was appreciated by Innovation Award. Innovation Award was given by Devang Vipin Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay.

GTU will receive a grant up to 10 crores over 5 years for establishing and running the center. GTU has also signed an MoU with L.M. College of Pharmacy and another MoU with Accuprec Research Labs Pvt. Ltd. for fostering entrepreneurship ecosystem. The primary purpose of this MoU is to build technical capacity, to promote mutual understanding between the organizations in their endeavor to foster innovation based entrepreneurship by supporting the students / incubatees in the respective sectors for commercializing their innovative ideas. This was stated by Hiranmay Mahanta, Director of GIC.

“LMCP was founded in the year 1947, by the most trusted and philanthropic educational trust Ahmedabad Education Society, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad. LMCP is approved by AICTE and PCI, New Delhi, Government of India and affiliated to Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad. India’s first pharmacy institute, L. M. College of Pharmacy, has been selected for setting up ATAL INCUBATION CENTER by Niti Aayog. The incubation center is only healthcare specific incubation center of the country. Ultra sophisticated laboratory facilities will be developed to support and mentor the innovation ideas of the students and faculties of the country, Dr. M.T.Chhabria, Principal of LMCP said.

“Accuprec Research Labs is one of the premier Contract Research Organisation (CRO) and has been pioneer of Research in pharmaceutical industries and academia. Accuprec Research Labs Pvt. Ltd. is the FDCA approved, NABL, ISO 9001:2015, GLP, CPCSEA & ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Contract Research Organisation (CRO). Both organizations agree to develop collaborative activities in the areas of mutual interests, entrepreneurship development and as equal partners with reciprocity. All such activities are expected to reflect the area of innovation and respective expertise. Aim of the MoU is to get skilled manpower / start up (working in Pharma / biotech) from the University and in exchange we impart training to Start Up incubated at University,” Mayur Kandoriya, Director & CMO of the CRO said.
