Wipro ex-CTO & founder of Big data & AI Company at Singapore gives valuable tips to GTU Start-up students
Ahmedabad: Mr. Vijaya Kumar Ivaturi (IVK), Ex CTO, Wipro & Co-Founder of Crayon Data (Big data & AI Product Company at Singapore with a development centre in Chennai) delivered Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture Funded by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog & also gave training to innovators in a special session for start-ups, organised by Gujarat Technological University (GTU).
During his 2-days deliberations with students of GTU Innovation Council, he provided some valuable tips for start-up projects. He said that, “Internet on Thongs (IOT) will bring major changes in fighter planes, communication system development etc. After few years wireless network, devices, smart phones, Technologies, Data analytics & cloud computing etc. will have very big impact.” Mr. Vijaya Kumar has written a book on ‘Manual for start-ups in 3 years in India’. He said that documentation like partnership agreement, investor agreement, employee manual etc. are included in the book. In india first 3 years are important for the development of startup. Most of startup in India are taking fund from family and friends. They are just helping but no agreement has been done in most cases.
Tips to innovators:
· Use Design thinking for initial pre-planning
· Explore the market first and analyze data
· Create business model beyond current technologies available in market
· Plan marketing strategies based on data pipeline and data implications
· Co-founders should be from cross domains to manage different areas of business
· Use Staircase model startup founders in this model
· Many Startups are failed or killed due to cash crunch
· Lone start up is not good idea
· Advisor - mentor shouldn't be partner or investor
· Startup should aware for which model they are following

On the occasion of birth anniversary of our beloved scientist and Missile Man - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, during National Start-up Summit 2017, under the aegis of India International Science Festival, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog awarded GTU as 2nd best Award for supporting Start-up ecosystem. Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU said that GTU has launched Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture series from the fund of the award. GTU Innovation Council (GIC) has established regional centres across the Gujarat State for Innovation and Startups at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat and Rajkot. GIC provides facilities like Co-Working Space, Mentoring, participation in Vibrant Summits, Central level Startup Competition and Guidance in marketing, Business development and many more, for the Sustenance of Innovators. Today, 67+ Startups have been incubated, out of which 41 Startups have been funded worth Rs 1.3 Crore based on Startup Assistance Scheme of Govt. Of Gujarat and SSIP. GIC is working in 5 domains namely: Pre-Incubation (S4), Design Thinking, IPR, CiC3 (Community Innovation & Co-Creation Centre) and Incubation to support Innovators.
