IPR Talent Search Exam & Award to be held in November every year

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is starting an Intellectual Property Talent Search Examination (IPTSE)-cum-awards from the current academic year, and this competitive examination would be conducted once a year in November and will be conducted online. It would specifically deal with spreading knowledge about getting patents for their projects and innovations. As per the circular issued by AICTE, the objective of the proposed IPTSE is to sensitise the youth about the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR), which includes patent, trade mark, copyright etc, besides fostering the spirit of innovation. Awards will also be given for contribution in IPR field.


Gujarat Technological University is successfully pushing ahead the IP movement. So far GTU had organized more than 90 workshops on various themes viz. “Patenting in Engineering”, “Patenting in Pharmaceuticals” and “Patent Search Methodology”, “Basics of IPR”, “Patent Search, Drafting and Filing workshops”, “Patent Search & Analysis Report Generation (PSAR) workshops”, etc. at GTU as well as different zone of GTU since September 2011 to till July 2018. In this process nearly 8000 faculty members and/or students have been trained and made aware about the basics of IPR and Patent in particular. Due to these efforts, within seven years’ time period 354 Patents have been filed by GTU affiliated college students and faculty of Engineering and Pharmacy discipline. The credit goes to the students, faculty and all the stake holder of research and innovation, who have actively engaged in the promotion of IPR. Now in present year as well, after completion of summer semester many BE, ME and M. Pharm students are working on or completed their research projects on various topics, out of which some research problem and their solutions are quite unique, which might fulfill the criteria of Patentability. To assist the students to decide whether their projects are patentable or not and if patentable then how to draft and file the Provisional and Complete Patent application, GTU has started series of Two days’ workshop on “Patent Search, Drafting and Filing” called as “Patent Clinic” at Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar. Till date 33 sessions of such Patent Clinic programmes had been organized successfully. A dedicated session of Patent Clinic to support innovations from pharma, biotech, healthcare and allied sectors, is planned in the month of August 2018. 34th Patent Clinic (For Pharma, Biotech, Healthcare and allied sectors) will be held on 3rd & 4th August. Techno-legal Experts from Industry and Academia from Pharmacy & allied sector will be invited, Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU announced.

 To give hands-on-training of Patent Search

 To assist for drafting Provisional Patent Application

 To assist for filing provisional patent applications of the participants
