Total 27 innovators achieved GTU Innovation Awards 2019

Ahmedabad: GTU Innovation Council celebrates GTU Innovation Award every year on 14th February to felicitate the student innovators by providing Award in categories of Innovate to Impact awards (i2i), Innovative Students’ Co-Creation Awards for Leadership and Excellence (i-Scale), Pedagogical Innovation Awards (PIA) and Start-ups awards. Total 27 awards were given to the innovators. More than 300 students & faculty members from all over Gujarat attended the event.

He said that entrepreneurship has no age. Only option to create new jobs is to start new businesses. Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced start-up India Movement in the year 2016. Culture change happens from top to bottom that entrepreneurship is important for the society to create wealth, jobs and impact. 4 IT companies in the world have Indian on top position. Success is not about more money, it’s about creating value and impact in the society.”

Total 228 boot camps held in the past 5 years that reached out to 3.5 Lakh students. Community Innovation Centres, 15 across the state to reach out to the students. GTU is the only university that credits students to analyse the problems of villages and create solutions for them. Problems of the country should be solved by the youth of the country. Due to Regional Start-up Centres started at Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara, response for nominations to the awards was unprecedented.

Prof. Tony Bailleti (Director- TIM, Carleton University, Canada) said that, “when god gave the ability to innovative, its a responsibility to improve the society, lead the country. Resilience is important, overcoming the obstacles should be the mantra of every Entrepreneur. Continuous improvement. His son shared with him today that, “Innovation is the product of Innovation and Commercialisation”. Dr. Rajiv Modi shared about the tremendous wealth India has, its people. The major problem is only few thousands have joined this movement and are a part of the ecosystem. Prof.(Dr) S.D. Panchal, In charge registrar of GTU welcomed all and told about the upcoming Smart India Hackathon and role of GTU in the mega event. Shri Shailesh Patwari, MD, NEPL & IPP GCCI hosted the event at Paryavaran Mandir, Ahmedabad. The program was taken up ahead by Hiranmay Mahanta by sharing the story from 2010 and connecting the problem solvers to create IP, value through the solutions proposed along with sharing the detail of 370 patents in the past 3 years, from the different parts of the state. He said that, “Minds in the Margin are not marginal minds.”

Award Categories

  1. Innovate to Impact awards: (i2i)GTU Innovation Council has declared i2i (Innovate to Impact) Award to recognize innovative projects of students across GTU affiliated colleges in Engineering, Polytechnic, Pharmacy, MCA, MBA and others. Students of Diploma, Degree, Masters and PhD program can nominate their innovations for this coveted award which will be given away on 14th February 2019 during GTU Innovation Sankul day celebration. Student’s Projects which address an important social, technological problem faced by masses or disadvantaged people/sectors/spaces or micro and small enterprises or have the potential to impact a pressing national need may nominate themselves.

  2. Innovative Students’ Co-Creation Awards for Leadership and Excellence (i-SCALE): I-SCALE have been awarded to recognize student-led initiatives in the fields of innovation, technology development, pedagogy, leadership, entrepreneurship and similar other endeavors. The Awards are not for discrete individuals. The Awards will be given to core team members who might have led such initiatives for a significant amount of time during their college time. The teams, whose members have graduated during the past two years at GTU, are also eligible for the Awards.

  3. Pedagogical Innovation Awards (PIA): The Pedagogical Innovation Awards are for recognizing the intervention in teaching- learning methodology at an individual and at an institutional level. We are trying to include all notable efforts, which have helped GTU Innovation Council in setting a new benchmark in the innovation ecosystems itself. We believe that by acknowledging such innovations adopted by you, these may be codified and documented. This will help scale up such initiatives all across state and beyond. Learning from the innovative steps, adopted by you, will not only inspire more than 17,000 faculty members within GTU but thousands of them from all other universities across the nation as well.

  4. Student Startup Award: The Student Startup Awards are for celebrating and recognizing the achievements of our students and recent graduates exploring the world of start-up. Any student or recent graduate (last 5 years alumni) can nominate his Venture/Startup in this category.

Early Stage Student Start-up: (0 to 3 years of operation)

Growth stage Student Start-up: (3-5 year of operation)
